Compressor info

Hi guys,

After much debating on whether to invest in a compressor, I was kindly given one free by a colleague! He inherited it so doesn't know too much about it.

From what it says on the unit, it's a 24 litre tank and goes up to 8 bar. The only info I can find on google (old gumtree ads) suggests it has a 1.5hp motor but that's about all I can get! Can anyone shed some light on it? When were they made, what is the FAD, can you still get spares, maybe even a data sheet or instruction manual for specs? I will be doing light spraying with it so primarily I would like to be able to choose a suitable gun, but other info is welcome also, do all compressors take the same oil?

Thanks for the tip - I hadn't considered those! I was originally looking at lvlp guns - the same seller as in the above link is selling one that supposedly only requires 4.3cfm of air, and is just over £40 delivered. Do you think it's worth a go? Maybe get both and see what I get on best with!

Pretty good for the cost to be honest, it normally runs off the 3hp compressor in the back of the van, but I've got a similar 25L direct drive jobbie to yours in the shed that it runs comfortably off, the compressor works harder obviously but it keeps up OK, I wouldn't want to spray a big area with it though, the noise gets too much after a while! You will need to add a water trap inline though to stop contamination, the Clarke ones seem pretty good value and work well.

I don't bother with the compressor regulator, in fact they went in the bin ages ago, I just use an inline regulator on the air feed to the gun to adjust the pressure. I also find having a coiled airline attached to my normal hose makes the gun a bit lighter in the hand.

The mini touch up guns are good if you just want to spray a small area, but I find you have to be very careful how much paint you are putting on, especially with 2K.

I've got a lvlp gun but to be honest I've never got on with it, doesn't seem to give a consistent coverage
