i'm looking for a replacement motor for a sealey sa1015/3 compressor

how much?

had a quick scout around ebay and found this one

all the measurements given are the same as the motor that has come off the compressor and as you can see, the price is more 'wallet friendly'

am i right in thinking the cheaper motor will do the job?

if so, how come there's such a price difference between the two?

Looks fine, it's a cap start, cap run so good starting torque. As long as it's physically compatible with your pulley and foot mounting there shouldn't be a problem.

Price is down to less hands taking profit from the supply chain !! They are both probably Chinese motors so it's win win !

Out of curiosity whats the problem with the original motor ?

As long as the shaft is the same size it should work.

The markup on OEM parts is insane. That is part of the price difference. The ebay one is no-name.

The ebay one should work.

You can buy the whole compressor cheaper than the motor in the first link, Their price promise sounds good. The only difference that might be between the two motors is the soft start on the sealy one, hp and rpm are the same.

LOL - I guess 99.99% of compressors sold have two caps and a dump valve fitted !!

@tigler the motor has burnt out and is seized solid, the previous owner was running it with a bolt for a fuse in a 13amp plug.

Hmm, looks like a splined shaft.

The ebay motor will be smooth with a keyway or D-shaped (the ad does not say.)

Worst case, you will have to change the pulley.

If it is direct drive, probably the OEM motor will be the only choice.

that's the back of the motor where the fan usually is, the pulley fits on the opposite end and the shaft is smooth.

Good grief, that is quite a burn out !! Please excuse my curiosity but I love to see dead stuff !!
The price Sealey are asking for that motor is utterly ridiculous !! You could even buy a UK made one for way less than half that price !

I would wonder why the 13 amp BOLT was fitted?
The bolt would have allowed the motor to cook but what caused the excess load that required the previous owner to fit a 13 amp BOLT?
Could be you may have a further problem that caused the orignal fuse blowing.
I should check that the pressure cut out and wiring are all working and good once you fit (or even befor you buy) new motor

Probably a faulty cap or start switch.

i reckon a faulty cap, no sign of any heat in the wiring to the motor from the start switch or on the start switch itself.

the pump looks like it has been serviced very recently with a new valve plate and gaskets and the oil and air filter are spotless, it spins freely and sucks'n'blows from the right places.

it's the price difference between the two pumps that makes me think there's something i'm missing.
when i first saw the sealey price i thought it was a typo but i found another couple of sites with similar prices.
