compressor oil

As some of you know,i have just bought an ingersoll rand 200ltr compressor,and when checking theoil yesterday,it looked like custard,and colour was yellow.Is this right or is it time for a change.Also the bloke in machine mart gave me sae 30 oil for it.Is this correct.Compressor is 3hp,belt driven twin cylinder thingy.

My Clarke 3 hp belt driven twin cylinder uses SAE 30 oil, so unless there is information to the contrary on a rating plate somewhere I'd use it.

Thanks bud for the quick response.One other ? though is,do you know how much oil it takes,i have only bought 1 litre.

At a guess I would say there should be a dipstick or a sight glass.

same for me with my Clarke industrial comp SAE 30 oil and has a sight glass just fill to half way

Cant see a sight glass anywhere or dipstick,unless its been painted over.Oil filler plug is just a wing nut,and the drain plug is just underneath it,but will 1 litre be enough.

Could the filler be a combined filler & level plug?

You could catch the oil that comes out, measure the volume, add a bit for luck and put that in.

The pump is most likely splash lubricated so it's important to get the right amount in.

r u sure the one u think is the drain plug is not the oil level plug ??if it is at the bottom its the drain plug if its a few inches up from bottom its an oil level plug

Well when i undone the drain plug,the oil came spewing out.All the plug is basically,a black iron plug as used in your gas pipes in your house.
