Compressor pipe sizing

Hi, ive just spent all my pocket money on 2x 3hp compressors, each compressor has a 1/2" bsp un-regulated outlet. My plan is to run the pipework from the compressors using Malcolms plan from his tutorial with the 2 linked together. The run of pipe will be approximately 15-20m. Should I use 15mm copper pipe, or step up from 1/2bsp to 3/4bsp at the compressor outlet then use 22mm copper pipe. As I would then need to reduce down again for regulators and filters would I be gaining anything by using the 22mm pipe? (im assuming 22mm would give me less pressure drop over the distance, but didn't want to spend the extra on the larger pipe unnecessarily. (read, tight wad!))

You will get less pressure drop and also the air will run more slowly in the larger pipe which will give it more time to cool down and allow any water to condense out.

There is also a larger surface area which will aid cooling even further.

If you use copper pipe you'll get your money back in scrap in 10 years the way things are going, better than money in the bank! (Assuming pikeys don't nick it first)

Totally agree, 22m copper is the way to go...

A true Yorkshireman to boot, probably could expand it to a retirement fund (depending on how old you are)...........
