Compressor piston seal.

I have just bought a lovely small 12volt compressor,I think they are around £200-00 new. The same sort as the RAC and AA use. Nice big motor and air tank about 12 inches long X about 7inch diameter, Clipped it onto a battery and it spins away on problem. However it only reached 80psi, not enough to trip the auto cut-out, and would not climb any higher, I will take the head off and check out the valves, But i'm just wondering if it is one of those with just a nylon/teflon disc in top of the piston instead if rings, if so are these parts available and from where,

You are a star!! The Koala2-12/24v is the exact one, Can't believe the prices, Retail £426, web price £295,
I gave £20-00 at Redcar boot sale, So if it does need a little attention I'm still doing well.

P.S. I stripped a 240v B&Q special, the "piston" was just a fixed disc on top of the "con rod" No gudgeon pin so the piston rocked as it travels in the bore,
This had a nylon etc seal(just like a bike pump) but could not buy a seal, they only supplied it with a new con-rod, and they wanted silly money

Well, Stripped the top end, and gave the valve plate and reed valves a gentle clean with fine scotchbrite, the piston seal does look a little slack in the bore, Although on rebuild the max pressure has now risen to 120lbs sq in and holds static pressure. and I can live with that as its only for very occasional use.
Just out of interest, and maybe for future overhaul does anybody know what the material is that is used to make these piston seals, Nylon/Ptfe etc.

good result then would be nice if you could fit a standard piston
they just dont make things to last anymore

Very likely to be PTFE.
