Compressor Question...one way check valve.

Hi guys...doing a bit of work on my garage compressor at the moment...

Quite some years ago the one way check valve on the storage tank from the compressor started to leak.

I fitted what I thought to be a suitable replacement...its been on for years and still works.

But when I looked at it recently I noticed it a hydraulic check valve not air.

My fear is that it putting a restriction in the line to the tank making hard work for the compressor unit.

Any ideas guys if its ok to leave this check valve fitted or would the compressor be quicker getting upto pressure with the correct valve.

The compressor is set to trip off at 110psi.

They normally have a cracking pressure (the pressure at which they start to open) of at least 5 psi, see if you can find what yours is rated. To be honest if it isn't broke don't fix it would be my advice, sounds like it works fine to me.

^^+1 If it's working ok then leave it. Actually a slight restriction would help is that the air in the delivery pipe (and after-cooler if fitted) will be raised to a slightly higher temperature and therefore will lose more heat. On entering the tank the pressure will reduce and the temperature will drop, thus condensing any moisture out.

as above it will be ok as long as its working if it didn't open it would stall the pump and motor

these valves normally get stuck open.......the rusty shxte from the tank does it......doesn't need much, almost a grain of sand size.......

Ok I will see how it goes with the new compressor unit and motor.

I have tried it free running not via the check valve...and it got the tank upto pressure very quickly...I will see how it copes running through the old valve.

If it was stuck open even I tad I dont suppose it would hold air for long...it was hold nicely...for weeks on end in fact.

Sorry for the late response...I had no email notifications I have replies to my question.

I wonder how much play I should have in the drive belt...the free run is around 12ins...I was aiming for around 3/4 inch...what do you think.

Well its all up and running with its old hyd check valve....seems fine...the old motor struggled this new 3hp is a beast.
