Compressor silencer

I have a compressor that I would like to build some sort of "cabinet" with some acoustic absorber on its inner walls in order to reduce the noise. did any of the forum members done such a thing? advice? appreciate every bit of info.
p.s. of course I plan to put the air intake filter outside the box.

Making the enclosure from wood, (or some form of composite board), rather than using a metal enclosure will be a plus on the noise deadening front too.

This was my project. I am pleased with the reduction in noise and have had the compressor running til 9 o'clock in the evening without concerns. I am sure there are ways to make it even quieter though. For my needs this works for me.

Rubber feet mounts make a big difference and is definately worth doing.

I must get my mate round with his decibel meter sometime. I would be interested to know the reduction.

I also built a compressor box. Check my photo albums. There is also a thread on the forum. The box has cooling fans with a dampened and baffled inlet and exhaust. Tests were done to ensure that the cooling is sufficient. The next time I would do a similar project, I'll use offcut high pile carpet as noise insulation. It's free and works very well.

I've seen the threads and it gave me guidelines how to do it. one thing that I'm considering to change is to use rockwool. I think it's more efficient for noise dampning. the idea to make the box from plywood, as suggested by Matt, might help with the noise issue, but I must look for a waterproof paint/coating because it will be placed outside. I'll also look for rubber supports as suggested by T_D.
First of all, I have to finish clean and assemble the compressor itself, which was completly dismantled since it's coverd with a thick layer of dirt.

I was thinking in terms of rockwool held in place with chicken wire.

Tigler - it is I guess, 5hp single head piston compressor but it's not the "chinese stuff".
Rtbcomp - I was thinking of a "insect grid" since it has very small "eyes" and it will prevent the rockwool disintegration.

I too built a box for my little compressor, I built it as a lean-to on the shed, I made a little door from the shed into the compressor house, I lined it wil old carpet, I built it on the back of theshed and its just a little murmer from the front of the shed.
