Compressor using oil

Hi Guys

I've got an sip airmate 200 with the v twin set up.

Problem is its using lots of oil and it's ending up in the receiver. I'm guessing it's the rings so pulled one of the heads and one of the barrels off but all looked ok.

Looked in to a replacement set of rings and a seal kit and from sip it seems pretty pricey to say the least.

So number one question is, is it most likely to be the rings and secondly could I get some none genuine replacements?

I'm assuming that bore/ring wear might be the problem here. On the assumption that the bores will wear in the same manner that a car engine will, you have to measure the cylinders in much the same way.

With the piston removed look for the 'step' at the top of the bore where the top ring doesn't quite get to. Remove the top ring and place it squarely into the very top of the bore - using the piston to settle it squarely is the key to this. Now use ordinary feeler gauges to measure the gap between the ends of the ring. Repeat the measurement a little further down the bore, below the step. Divide by pi and that's the amount of radial wear the cylinder bore has suffered. New rings will take up some of this wear, but only oversize rings - if they're available - can eliminate all the wear. Even then, there's the possibility that the cylinder bores may have worn unevenly to produce ovality, which new rings/pistons can only improve, but not cure.

As for 'aftermarket' replacement parts availability, that comes down to industry deciding that it's worthwhile investing in production machinery compared to the profitability of marketing them.

Just a thought - is the air intake filter blocked? If it is pump may be pulling oil from the crank case.

Stripped it down today and the lower sealing rings look like They are pretty worn. In some spots they have a lip and others they are totally flat.


The bores don't look to bad but not checked them in the way you have said yet.

Found a shop on ebay that sell direct from china/Japan can't remember which and the ring sets are a lot more reasonable so will try these first and hope for the best.
