Compressor wiring

I was planning on using some 6mm swa i have at home to wire up my new compressor ,an se18 4hp 200litre machine mart job.

I've downloaded a general pdf but the instructions are not clear ,can anyone confirm wiring goes straight to pressure switch? and if so is there a threaded hole to terminate the swa gland to?

What have others used sy,twin and earth?...cable should be rated at 40amps for the SE18...

Wire size depends on length of cable mine is only 3hp and I used 4mm for a 6m run.

Garage CU is about 6-7ft away , I have been told 6mm swa will carry over 40amps but is there a big enough entry on the compressor?....I'm assuming under the pressure switch?

I would prefer to wire it up with the pressure switch energising a contactor and overload rather than having the full load going through the pressure switch. What current is the pressure switch rated for.

The pressure switch fitted to the compressor will be able to handle the motor current without a separate contactor.

I would wire your garage wiring to a socket on the wall and then via a plug & flexible to the compressor, IIRC my compressor came with a mains lead attached. Look in the manual for the correct current rating.

This arrangement will allow you to isolate the compressor for maintenance and make it easier to disconnect if you need to move it.

If the pressure switch has a lead already wired,it should be easy enough,shame it doesn't tell you on the website or downloadable manual...

the compressor in the picture shows a contactor on the floor at one side. if so it will have the oveloads in it. if so the feed from the mains will be wired in to that and so will the motor and the pressure switch will be wired through the contactor coil to start and stop it

Cheers BS...It came with a short lead about 6ft long,from the pressure switch...but long enough for me to wire in the garage dis board,

It took 4 1/2 mins to fill a 200l tank ,think it was @10bar

Now I need a 1" reducer so I can connect my hoses,have to pop into work

I ran my compressor lead into a switch and ran cable from fuse box in plastic conduit as pic

Its easy to isolate then

Has that switch got a lock-out? With a plug & socket you can move the plug well away from the socket when working on a machine.

should have just put a socket on the end of armoured cable. pulling the plug out is the isolation

Think its got a slot for putting a padlock in, but only me in the garage so if I can't remember if its switched on or off then I have a problem and need to visit the doctors.
