I change the oil for a thinner oil from m/mart its the thinnest that they have.
the ****** is still reluctant to start when cold.
once I put heat into it she fires great. wtf is wrong with it.
when I go into the house for din din come back out I find that the ****** has blown a fuse!, during the warm weather she is fine.
also is it normal that the pressure dropped even when not in use for a bit.
theres no leak any where, I did the soap 'n' water..brush every thing appears to be OK.

mmm good question.
I would say roughly about every half hour and the compressor start to run for about a minute. but I don't know if this normal or not being this is my 1st compressor.


kept in the garage and it very cold till it get warmed up with a little heater.
once the garage is warmed up ,I turn the heater around onto the compressor.
then after awhile she will start up once I turn it on. other wise she will not start and if left to long she will blow the fuse.

Mine leaks down very slowly. Just been sorting some new lines and noticed a tiny hiss. So brushed some fairy liquid around various joints and found a couple of other tiny leaks that weren't making any sound, Might be worth a go.

Are you using this on an extension lead ?
Also , does it start no problem when the receiver is at low or zero pressure ?

i found that the machine mart oil was way to thick, i could even get it into the pump, it was like treakle, this was sae 40, think the thinnest they do is 30, i have since moved to sealey sae 40, its much better and have had no problems

i had one from machine mart just for our drivers to use on the van tyres and was exactly the same in winter never start from cold.
did you buy it new if not the reed valvesin the cylinder head could be leaking along with the non return valve on the tank.
i also have a large compressor although it doesnt need heat to start it still takes more in winter.

I bought it second hand for £45. the guy said he used only to respray his car.
I'll be honest I know nothing about compressors. when I get time I'll strip it down and have a look. thanks for your replies. john

If your using it on an extension cable , even uncoiled , that will almost certainly be the problem. They need to be plugged directly into a socket.

short cable plug directly into the socket on the wall about a foot and a half.

What size of motor is it? My 2hp one used to pop the breaker all the time, till put on 16a line. The missus' baby 1.5 or poss less is fine on 13 and extension, but then it is a titch.
Air leaks, fairy+water will show. Ended up using sealant and tape on a few fittings, tape alone not enough. Poss due to el cheapo fittings.

the compressor works fine when the temp is up a little.
if I put a heater directly on to the compressor for a couple of minutes on a cold morning she will fire up no problem.during the summer months I have no problem just when it is freezing cold that's when it is reluctance to start unless warmed up a bit.
oil probably just a little to thick.

We have had a problem at work recently,our dryer failed so we were putting wet air into the air system,the knock on affect was pnuematic valves freezing up,the minute particles of water formed into ice and stopped valves from working ,we removed ice from a few valves ,heating did improve the situation,maybe you have something similar?
