Container for cellulose paint?

I've just bought a small (125ml cup) HVLP spray gun and 2 litres of ready mixed cellulose matt black paint from an EBAY supplier....I'm fed up of buying loads of rattle cans!!

Trouble is, they've sent it in a large 2.5 litre tin which will make it very difficult for me to pour into the little cup!!

Any ideas what I could use as an intermediate container with perhaps a pouring lip...?? I was thinking of old plastic milk bottles but I suppose they would melt!! I did think about jam jars but glass is a bit delicate to have stored full of paint. Would old toilet duck bleach containers be safe??

I have yet to buy some thinners so I presume I could probably buy something suitable from the local paint suppliers...at a price!

Milk containers made from HDPE should be fine. Bleach bottles I think are HDPE so again fine. But your main issue with any of these containers is properly washing them out. You would need to flush them with loads of very hot water. I think the spout part on bleach bottles can be levered off.

I dislike paint tins as they are cumbersome and messy to pour from. I have bought HDPE bottles from ebay before to decant into, can get all sizes. You can also get screw top tins.

Just picking up on you saying you need to buy thinners, you said the paint you bought was ready mixed - so it shouldn't need thinners. But you do need gunwash to clean up with after.

When I am using my small spray gun I transfer from the large tin to the cup using a large glass syringe, think shops dealing with brewing equipment stocks them, perhaps ebay may also be a place to search, no drips and no mess.

I have a jar with some thinners in and just ran that through the syringe after each use, had no problems with it drying and sticking.

The method works really well and saves a lot of mess.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.... I do like the idea of the syringe...will take a look on EBAY. Yes when I mentioned thinners it was for cleaning...I've not used gunwash...presume it's similar but cheaper/dearer?

I'd go with the paper paint strainers as well. As well as making pouring easy it is important to strain away any crap trapped in the paint tin. This will either block the spray gun fluid tip or end up on whatever you're painting.

just nick the wifeys tights and strain the paint just dont get caught out by anyone with them before u use them cos they wont believe u

Don't discount glass bottles either. I always decant my paint into 500ml vinegar bottles which have had a good wash out and then a final rinse out with white spirit.
