I am using a presure pot in a cabinet, it works reasonable well but the gas valve in the cabinet keeps getting a hole in it
is there a special valve for this,
ps using shot, from the shot blasters 20 pound a bag is this a rip of
Hi Pinky, I use the same set up as you but with a modified nozzle. I bought a cheap 3mm tungsten nozzle off ebay and it works great for the parts I blast. 3mm is more than a 3HP compressor will cope with but OK for small parts.
What do you mean by gas valve? Is that the 1/4 turn lever ball-valve for regulating the grit? Any pictures?
Also what type of shot are you using? There is a big difference in cost dependent on type.
Thank you for the reply I am using a 3 mm tungsten nozzle the valve is a gas valve to switch it on and of in the
cabinet dousnt last 5 minutes what grit would you recommend and we're do you get it from , thank you
pink
Have you a foot switch to turn the air on / off to the pot?
I have a gas valve upstream of the nozzle but just have it on full all the time, (change it once in two years i think) I find it causes loads of problems / blockages if you use it to turn off the air and grit supply.
I use j blast supafine, cheap but it doesn't last. (When it turns to dust it is good for alloy wheels though)
Garnet is better as it can be recycled a few more times.
I haven't used anything else but I would like to try some of the chilled steel grits as they produce a lot less dust and last a lot longer but there are issues with the weight of the grit and it clumping / rusting in the pot. Also I don't thing the crappy diy kit I have would be up to it.
If the valve is in the grit stream it won't last, best just to fit the nozzle in the end of the hose with a Jubilee clip.
You can control the pot with a footswitch. A solenoid valve* from an old washing machine valve work well, use an electrical footswitch switch and make sure wiring & connections are well protected. There will be some delay as the pot starts up and finishes, but it does saving trying to operate the air valve outside the cabinet with both hands inside!
*They're not continuously rated, I found connecting a bulb from a microwave oven stopped the valve coil burning out.
Hello Mr bright spark,
I have tried that Turing of the two valves however it keeps blowing the shot out
unless I empty the pot
wich is the best grit to buy and
were is the best place to get the grit
You just turn the air supply valve off, leave the others as is. I put an extra valve on mine to vent the pressure to atmosphere. Particularly useful if you have a blocked nozzle as it's a bit hazardous taking the top off the pot under pressure.
Crushed glass is great and really cheap if you buy a tonne at a time, delivery to the IOW could be expensive. It's supposed to be single use but I kept recycling it until it was so fine it just got caught inmy extraction system
