Convert Live Torch Cebora

I have an old Cebora 880 Pocket Mig. Main Porblem I have is that with it being a live torch I struggle to hold my arm still while dropping the visor and then starting to weld. Also when stopping welds the run-on of the wire feeder means I have to bring that in to account with my timing.

Is it possible to put a relay in to make the torch standard (non live) and is there anything I can do to stop the run-on of the wire feeder after the button is released?

It would really depend on how the welder is build in the first place. you would need a large contactor to control the current. on the 130's they use a multiple contacts in one contactor, two ways i think, to switch the earth clamp on and off. this would need an electical switch in the torch, which probably not there and the current wire feed may be triggerd by the arc being struck. This would therefore need a euro-torch conversion to provide the switch, a contactor wired in correctly and the wire feed correctly rewired also.

It will probably be easier and cheaper to get a new set.

with a decent size contactor (20A or so) and a bit of thorght should be easy enougth

i would think an auto helmet would be cheaper & less likely to cause future grief?

The Contactor will need to exceed the welding current.

with a triple contactor you'd need 40-50 amps to cover 120-150 amps

you put it on the input to0 the transformer where the current is 13A ish

If you want an output contactor, you can use a starter solenoid. One for a car or one for a riding mower.

That is what i have on my homemade wire feeder.

The thing with putting a contactor on the input side is you kill the power to the trigger as there will have no separate power transformer.
