Copper heat sink?

I've got a bit of old busbar, can it be used as a heat sink for tig welding thin materials?

It's about 5mm thick.

yeah a few people are using the same for mig so don't see why not

Almost anything can be used. Best if its metal that dont fuse easily with rhe ones being welded.

I have some copper like that (maybe a bit wider depending on scale) which I use and have had no problems.

I use my assortment of copper bars for filling in big gaps, it gives you something to sit the weld on. You can also grind a groove in it and use it to back up a butt weld from one side.
