Copper rose

I was asked by a friend to make a copper rose last week. Started with 0.5mm copper sheet:

Cut out the petals and leaf:

then bashed with a cross pein hammer to get some texture:

soldered some bits of wire into a length of copper brake pipe to attach the foliage

photo of the finished flower:

then stuck some plastic leaves on and stuck it in the post, forgetting to take a photo first
fortunately the recipient sent me a photo when she got it:

Very nice Aesgarth,Textured petals look great. How about experimenting with aged copper (verdigris) for the leaves? Have you put any sort of finish in the rose,to keep the petals bright?

Wow, that's really nice.
I've made a few from flattened copper pipe which I thought were good, this really puts mine to shame.

The downside is they hurt far more than regular flowers when an angry GF throws one at you.

no finish to keep it bright, did think about spraying with clear coat but the person who asked me to make it did so based on photos of previous ones i've done which were much more dull in appearance because i attempted to solder the petals on. I've told her the brightness will fade and she's happy with that.

I did think about doing copper leaves all the way down rather than plastic, and aging the whole stem and leaves but in the end decided against it this time. It's definitely something i'll experiment with in future.

Now all her friends ar going to want one. Happened to me last year and I ended up making about 30, but at least I got paid for them. This Valentines I made a bunch of 6 copper tulips - more stages involved than roses what with annealing, forming and repolishing.

I'm not making a lot of these. I got paid for the materials but my time was free, and at about 4 hours per rose i think the price will put people off.

Edit:
She has suggested that she wants a lot more of them, and i'll happily do that but i don't think it's viable to do commercially so i'll probably only make them for people i care about enough to put the time in for free.

Looks good. Worth removing the felt tip from the leaves next time, when you've finished. Just a little finishing touch.

I've seen lots of attempts of roses that look really good but they always look so much nicer made from copper and this is no exception at all. Great job and nice to see the stages of manufacturing.

Anybody got any experience with enamelling? Thinking a red enamel finish on the flower and green on the stem, possibly make the leaves out of copper as well and doing them green too.....

Just to add, i made my first one using flattened pipe, it makes a massive difference using new flat sheet, so much easier.
