Hey guys so im spraying my girlfriends mx5 today . I just put down the high build primer and holy jesus iv never seen so many fish eyes they are everywhere .before I sprayed I went to the car wash to clean all the sanding dust off . Panel wiped everything . Tack ragged it . Turned the diesel heater on full blast and sprayed when the place was warmed up. My airline has a few water traps and I have a 3 stage filter so I dont think it has anything to do with my air or compressor

Diesel blow heater firing spray out for sure. Is your girlfriend the fussy type ? Tell her it's a custom effect

yeah the heater doesnt sound too much of a good idea
also these car washes sometimes use recycled water , so possibly had other peoples tyre shine and wax sprayed over it?

First off I wouldn't have taken it to the car wash toclean the dust off, they have all kinds of additives in the water, and as steve said they use partly recycled water so I'm lead to believe.
but then the diesel heater....well that's probably the biggest cause.

That sounds like your problemI would think the diesel as well, I am currently spraying in an I heated garage just with a fast hardener and a bit more thinners seems ok, I do leave a halogen heater on for about half hour before I start but would never dream of using a space heater gas or diesel think they give off a lot of moisture as well,

possible you may have to either strip it back and start again or bar coat it
Ok well I just gave it a coat of 2k red after sanding all the fisheyes out of the primer and wouldnt ya know it . Fish eyes ruin a perfect finish again . This time I didnt use the car wash or the diesel heater but im assuming the silicone was trapped in the primer . Luckily it was only the bonnet I done

I've never known diesel to cause this only silicone contamination I've know back street spray shop to use nothing but diesel space heaters and not had problems from them I also painted a four track for someone in their lockup with a space heater and no problems, I've so seem people get over spray on oily parts of the engine and the paint just sit there no dispersal, so I'd give it a good wash or 3 then panel wipe and on with primer

chances are it has had a polish with some silicone based polish at some time or other silicone based trim product, its always silicone that's why adding silicone drops to the paint helps because there is nothing to react with as paint and surface both contain the same, however I don't recommend using the drops its best to get rid of the problem

No WD40 was used in the making of this programme was it. It hangs in the air for 12hrs at least. I think Langy may be close to the mark with that stuff they sell at car shows where they polish a bonnet with polymer coating and for some inexplicable reason set fire to the bonnet. If it shows that badly in the primer, its pretty serious.

How bad are the fisheyes/silicone spots?,if its only afew,a quick pro tip for you is cheat them away by pointing the gun directly over said spot,and give it a spot mist,before lots of air to dry it,then again,and so on ,till its dissapeared.If the panel is peppered with them,rub it back down and panelwipe it again.get rid of the contamination during the primer coats and keep it away..
