Critical welding to chassis, Ie. SAS axle swap

Ok so I have been messing around with the arc, 2.5mm 6013 rods at 100 amps, been welding 100x100x4 box section. Not pretty welds, but I'm getting good penetration and solid welds.

What size rods would I need to weld 5mm plate and box etc to chassis for suspension mounts etc if doing a solid front axle swap on my nissan terrano ?

Would you advise me to attempt this kind of critical welding being as I'm still very much a total noob ?

Short answer...no.
If it all goes horribly wrong and fails on the road the consequences could be devastating.
Your best bet is to tack it together exactly how you want it then take it to someone to get welded properly.

Why "SAS" - or does that just stand for "Solid Axle Swap"?
I've got this mental picture of a small unit of elite troops covertly moving in under the cover of darkness, and doing the job for you, while you sleep soundly - only to go out the next day, and find a calling card with a winged dagger, and "who dares wins" printed across it, and (of course) the job done!

Anyway, I'm with Wozzaaah on this one - get someone else to do it.
