This cross at the Cemetry has slowly rotted away over the years.
I went to the council and they gave me the grave location map I couldn't read it so couldn't really determine who's it was.
It was someone's loved one once and one day it won't be there.
I felt sad so replaced it.

Absolutely brilliant, we all of us often see graveyards with headstones dated 1800 something or other and very rarely if ever are these graves tended by anyone now. I sometimes wonder what will happen to my brother and my fathers headstones. I would think it highly unlikely I would be buried next to them in fact that is something I need to sort out so I will discuss it with the missus later.
Now there's a cheery thought first thing Sunday morning, practical though.

Apparently when you reserve a plot in the uk, its only booked for a set number of years according to our parish councillor. However it may be different in the church yard, they may not do over planting.

If you book a single plot for you and the Mrs, best get agreement in advance who is on top!

This is a current problem for us. Grandad passed in 1997 iirc. Nan passed in January and funeral tomorrow. Grandads plot was supposd to be a double height for nan to go on top. She always said bring a rain coat, there will be thunder when she is buried.

Council phone us up they cant do it because it was not dug deep enough, too shallow for nan to go on top. You cant remove somone to make it deeper, needs a court order and wouldnt want to disturb him anyway. Cant change the funeral day so we are having to put her a few spaces over, which also means a new headstone and everything.


I am wondering if there was a mistake and they put somone else on top? I was only a child back then but I remember it being bloody deep.

There's often a time limit on how long you lease a plot. 1997 is 25 years hence so they may have already put another casket on top of your grandad though I think it's probably quite unlikely especially if it was paid as a double plot to start with. Probabl;y just a grave digging mistake.

I bought our plots at a green burial site. Had to be adjacent, as a single two-tier was not permitted. Not sure if it is a 100 or 200 year purchase. Either way, it won’t worry me/us!

No sticky-up crosses allowed - it all has to be mowable straight over the top (until such times as it might be over-planted with woodland, I expect?).

Thanks, she was 99 and had a good life. It was her time as her body was gone but her mind was 100% still with it.

I much prefer that idea. My uncle chose that for when he passed last year. Each plot gets a tree planted and my uncles was done yesterday. I wasnt able to go but I assume each is well spaced enough for the trees to be healthy. From the photos its quite an open area currently.
