Hello,

I need to install a floor mounted/pedestal type spot welder for production sheet metal use.

I have 3 phase installed but it is fused at 20amps, due to distance from the pole.

All the machines I look at are rated in kVA, how does this relate to my 20 amp capacity? Do I need to install some kind of converter to up the current capacity?

3-phase at 20A is 415 * 20= 8.3KVA for a 2-wire load, (415*20*1.7) 14.4KVA for a 3-phase load.

Single-phase load is limited to 230 * 20 = 4.8KVA.

You would need to know how much your other equipment is using.

You would only be using 2 out of 3 phases for a spot welder
