I've a forge and the correct alloy steel to make a knife, I'm interested to see what you do

Where are you getting your contact wheel from Alik and what style of grinder are you building ? I've made a few knives using files and an Aldi cheap bench belt grinder but I haven't done any for a long time. I've made a couple of folding pen knives as well, they are a bit more of a challenge.

Hi ya,

I didn't realise that all the images wouldn't load up straight away. If you look at the ones titled "image 1", "image 2", "image 3" they show what kind of grinder I am making. As to the contact wheel.......well I have gotten the drive and tracking wheels from Beaumont Metal works last time I was in the states. It uses mainly a flat platen to grind against so it doesn't have that kind of contact wheel. However, I will probably make an attachment for that in the future. Also, top wheel IS a small contact wheel holder and that can swap out wheels from 1/2" to 2" for grinding internal corners. Hope that makes sense.......

I am waiting to straighten one of my pieces of steel that got warped during laser cutting. When I have that back from work then I will be able to put in together pretty quickly

It's handy to have flat platen and a contact wheel preferably with a serrated rubber finish for if you want to do hollow grinding and also the ability to remove the platen to do slack belt as well. That design looks like it will cover all eventualities if you have the ability to turn it round.
