Cut off saw choice

What's the best value cut off saw for occasional use. Mainly mild box section and stainless tube/box section with the odd bit of 10mm stainless rod. Are the evolution saws all hype? These are cuts for Tig welding

I'd love a big old reciprocating hacksaw, but they never come up over here, or stupid money.

An angle grinder in a cutting frame is as cheap as it gets.

I found a cold cut saw, think circular saw, tct toothed blade, but slower, much slower in terms of rpm than an evolution thing.

Depends budget and application.

Then there's band saws.

Well, the budget evolution saws and the Screwfix cut off saws are about £100 . I'll go a bit higher if something is a better choice but don't use one often enough to warrant spending too much, just want to get cleaner cuts for welding than I'm getting with my grinder

The evolution saws are good, I only use mine for wood, fire wood loads of it.

Don't know how long the blades last reguarly doing metal.

Bought a new blade last year and it's already getting tired just cutting wood, but it's worth it for that.

I've got my good Bosch 10" sliding mitre saw I use for work. Can cut aluminium with that ok but not steel.

No, I looked into that and the bore is different and to be honest I don't wanna wreck my £500 saw I use for work

Think I paid £60 secondhand, if I'm using it for hours, and I have I check the temperature of the motor with my hand, and when it gets too warm, it's beer break time, let it cool down.

Done tons of wood with it, many, many, many cubic metres over the last four years.

I rate the slow speed cold saws, highly accurate and no bits of hot metal flying everywheere, use mine for box up to 100x50, and can mitre 45 degrees either way accurately. If you can find one secondhand they are built to last.

After using a cheap chop saw for years, I got sick of measuring nice mitre cuts to have the disc flex in the cut and make bad cuts. It also made a lot of sparks / noise.

Picked up a Bosch cold cut saw for like $650 AUD - low noise, virtually no sparks, laser sight, lot faster cutting and nice accurate cuts. Will never touch a chop saw again.

dont use a metal cutting carbide blade on a wood chop saw....it will end in tears...I have the biggets Evolution chop saw u can buy and love it....
Few here hate em but it suits me.....plus I have a metal cutting band saw....

I have an evolution chop saw, the one with the blue bits on it CPS355 or something like that. Like night and day after using an abrasive chop saw for years. Noisy, and the chips from it need some controlling, but the cuts are great, saves so much time, not just in the speed of cut, but also in the cleanup afterwards, as there are no burrs, and it actually cuts where you want it to, not where it fancies it, so for mitre cuts etc, it can be 5 minutes per cut faster overall, and much less frustrating. Also, it can cut at it's max capacity all the time. I used an abrasive chop saw for some 100 x 100 box, and it could only do about 3 cuts before the blade got too small, and you had to change it.
