Hi all what's the best way to cut down a tungsten. i need to get in a very small space to tack a bit of 1mm thick so i need to cut the tungsten . please help.
When you accidentally touch down, whats thé best way to cut them back? Ive fractured many a tungstèn trying to trim off thé dross ?
I use a CBN wheel to dress tungstens, a twist on the edge until almost through and then you can snap off the snot with your fingers. I found different grades of tungstens split more than others. So its far better to treat them all as suspect and cut the snot off completely
that's pretty much what happend to me it just splinteredThanks folks, i tried wire cutters, angle grinders, all to dire résults....

its the vibration that causes trouble when angle grinding a tungsten - it needs to be held in a vice right up the part where you want to cut so the tunsten has no place to hop about. your cutting up against the vice jaws, and it wont cause any issues with tungsten fracture.I use the same method Shox Dr explained, using a diamond coated wheel. You can cut the snot off and re-sharpen in no time at all. I actually twizzle the tungsten against the corner of the wheel until the end falls off.
I don't see the point in doing any snapping at all - I hate split tungsten, it wastes far more length than just a bit of dipping.
The 1mm thin cutting discs in an angle grinder work just as well for cutting. I think the secret is to use something that doesn't cut too aggressively or need too much pressure.
I think you mean Hudmut . I too have one of his tungsten sharpener/cutoff tools. Great bit of kit.Whatever happened to that guy Mudrut who used to make those grinder attachments for dremel tools? I have one and I love it
That’s the one!! Close enough!I think you mean Hudmut . I too have one of his tungsten sharpener/cutoff tools. Great bit of kit.
I think there was some issue with him selling them on here.
