Da sander problem

Hi again everyone I am after a bit of advice here I recently bought an air DA sander which worked well for about ten minutes and then died when the lever was pushed it it seemed to let air straight through it but not operating the sander anyway I rung the company who replaced it straight away with no quibbles but I am now thinking I might be to blame as it did appear to be running very fast and before it died it seemed to be doing more spinning than dual action, could I have caused it by putting to much pressure through it as my compressor has 1 18 cfm pump and 1 14 cfm pump and a 270 litre tank what pressure should I run a DA at as I know it was cranked up high. Also would it be repairable as they did not want it back thanks Chris

Try squirting in some WD40, and if it then works try using at the pressure recommended by the manufacturer.

If you have no reg on air system, then I would think switch on your tank would cut off at about 9 or 10 bar (aprox 140psi) The tool would be designed to run at 80/90 psi so running at tank pressure shouldn't be a problem. I run all my tools straight from tank cos I have fairly long lines and need the umph for wheel nuts etc
You must as I do drop air tool oil into the air inlet every time you plug them in or they will seize. I have a moisture trap on the main outlet, if itb gets full (Memory like a goldfish) my rachet wont worknext time so as said a squirt with WD40 to displace moisture, then run it with loads of air tool oil

did you lube it before using it? if not vane are very likely stuck,try usingair tool lube.if your prepping for paint,wd40 is the last thing to use.it's full of silicon.it will give to so much trouble. dont run it free load,keep it in contact with work.

WD40 does NOT contain silicone. I know if you even mention silicon to a paint sprayer it's instand death!

But it will displace any moisture left in tools from wet air, where as oil will just lie on top of water and/or emulsify into a white milky gloop

Seriously, whether silicone or not, it WILL affect your paintwork. and it's a ****** to rectify, so I'd go for proper air tool oil.

Also with ANY form of lubricant for airtools, don't over do it, a tiny drop will be enough, or better still get a auto oiler (little seethrough plastic vessel that goes before an airline), this gives a nice metered amount of oil on a regular basis. You'll be surprised how little oil the tool uses.

Any type of lube will affect your paintwork if it gets on it, common sense and panel wipe should be used though.

any way there is a correct oil for air tools.

if the airtool is gummed up rusty or stuck . oil wont free it .so u have the choice of using wd40 or parafin mixed with the oil to clean and free the bearings and rotor . then when its flushed out 3 drops of oil before use give a good run to get any exess oil and crap out and your good to go . dont bother with auto oilers it isnt being used on a production line 24 hours a day

So production lines have got nothing to do with it at all.

But anyone worth their sort knows you don't put WD40 in your da, next you'll be saying you lube up your gun with the stuff........jeez!!

i have 2 da that i bought second hand siezed up .they were freed off and have been used for the last 30 years no bother no marks on any paint and no auto oiler . just 3 drops of oil before use u would need the oilers if u work in a body shop because u wouldnt bother oiling them or maintane them if u had to pannel wipes good stuff try it

apart from repair air and power tools of every description had a hire busines and a shotblasting and painting buisness . i just do electrical work now as i can earn a fortune on out of hours callouts . its easy work and less hours oh i forgot used to buy a few cars and re spray them .sell em on

I'm with ''brightspark'' on this one, if you're using air tools all day[not spray guns of course] then autolube is essential because some of the ''operators'' are only interested in production & bonus & wouldn't know how or why to put a couple of drops of airline oil in the tools, but for the likes of someone who does it as a hobby/semi professional then put a couple of drops in [not pumping it in as stated ] before you start & I allways put some in when I finish & run for a few mins to prevent rusting, I've also bought seized tools from auto-jumbles over the years & used to free them with wd40 but don't any more because i use DW40 now, similar stuff but made by local firm in darlington [smith & allan oil merchants] it's anout £13 a gallon.
