DA sander seems a bit slow

I have an ingersol rand 3hp compressor,with a 200 ltr tank,and i have just bought a da from machine mart,and the compressor seems to be struggling.You can actually watch the pressure drop on the gauge,so only getting a few mins working time from it,surely this aint right.Secondly,can you use the oil in your air tools that you buy out of the pound shop or is it too thick.

i just use 3 or 4 drops of 3in one oil before use. da.s use quite a bit of air , what cfm comp have u got

The above info is all i have mate on the compressor,there is no info on it at all.Just know its a big old belt driven one.Apparently it used to run a bodyshop.

Yeah to be honest, running a DA on a comp of this size is not going to work. I'd suggest getting an electric one, they're quieter, and you can go for hours, and you won't wear out your comp!!!!

Yup, a DA is a high consumption tool, you need at least 5 HP to cope.

Saying that though,i did only let the gauge rise to just half way,but that took ages.Is that relly correct then,i need 5 hp,and if so,is there a way i can modify my comp to generate an extra 2 hp.

u would have to run the pump up to its maximum pressure that may be 120psi or 150 and probably stops and cuts back in at 90 ish. just before it cuts out start using so that the motor is still pumping at over the cut in speed that will give u more time before it runs out of air . if u put a a larger motor on and changed the pulleys to speed it up it would overheat and not last long

if the compressor is quite old and slow to fill it might be worth cleaning the reed valves and seats, some people let the comp suck in paint fumes and paint starts to build up on the reeds

I have the same problem last night, I try my da sander on the compressor 2hp although the da sander is only 3cfm, it drops far too quickly and I only was able to work 5 min.

So I don't think it was a good purchase.
I am probably going to get a electric one.
