Dachshunds, a Rabbit & The Deathly Hallows

This year's Christmas shopping wasn't going terribly well so I stuck around at the workshop and got a bit creative.

First up was a Dachshund wall plaque type thing.
I found a suitable silhouette online and after free handing onto paper to make a template cut it out of some reclaimed stainless.
This was all done with an angle grinder, hand drill, burr bit and hand files as my plasma cutter was out of action.
All in it took around 8 hours to cut and finish the edges. I definitely should have forked out for the plasma tips.

Second on the list was a semi 3D Peter Rabbit.
This was another free hand template onto steel but rough cut with the plasma this time.
All on the black lines were depressed using a hammer and cold chisel over a 2x4 before it was flipped over shaped with mallets on a sand bag. Once I'd got it to a shape I liked I added a bracket to the back for wall mounting.
The whole this was them primed and sprayed cream before I brush painted his coat and swage lines.

Last but not least is a Deathly Hallows symbol from Harry Potter.
Nothing too complicated here just a bit of rolling, bending and brazing.

You should treat yourself to one of the cheapo projectors off ebay, connect to the pc...project to the paper, trace over the outline and job done, you can get them for £25.

A nice bit of repousse on the Peter Rabbit, I haven't seen any one doing repousse work for years.

I'm especially pleased with how Peter Rabbit turned out.
I've got a similar style goose with golden eggs and accompanying cow from Jack & The Beanstalk in the works at the moment. Hopefully I'll have some pictures before long.

I'll definitely have to add one to my shopping list. Getting the proportions right when scaling up such a low-res image is a bit of a mare.

Yep it wasn't easy. Most of the was trimmed with a slitting disc then plunge cut into the edges to leave fingers that could be snipped off with side cutters.
The remainder was removed with a 6mm burr in a die grinder and then hand files.

I'll be skipping straight to the plasma next time.

Really cool! Loving the Peter rabbit I was at the Beatrix potter museum lady year for the 150 year anniversary. I got to paint a Peter rabbit and got a limited edition 50p peter rabbit coin. I like how you shaped it to give it depth.

I thought I'd share another project that I recently finished in a similar vein to my earlier Peter Rabbit.

They are the characters Sophie and Goose by an artist & children's author local to me named Laura Wall. She does some fantastic stories about their adventures together and these two will be sitting in my Mums day nursery as the children love the stories.

I'm figuring out the logistics to doing a 6ft Gruffalo at the moment.
