Damaged new compressor

Hi,

So after getting some back-pay at work I thought I’d treat myself to a good compressor. I’ve not even started it yet (waiting on a 16a supply being installed) and I thought I’d check all the bolts to ensure they were tight.

I tightened the four bolts on the below cover as they seemed too loose, but what I didn’t realise is the cover is plastic and when I’ve tightened them I’ve driven the bolts into the cap itself.

Do you reckon I’ll need to replace it? I’m not too sure what this cover is for and it seems to have a gasket.

I could actually slap myself in the face for being so stupid right now…

Looks like an inspection cover and wont do any harm to get it off and check, but if it doesnt leak I would leave alone.
Appears to have an oring/gasket.
Infact the oilless version has a clear cap so you can see its to provide bearing access - wont affect the running.

Thanks - so after some more searching I’ve established it’s the main bearing cover/housing. It surprised me it was made of plastic/chocolate. I’ll keep an eye on it when I finally get it started.

Still feel like an absolute plum when I felt all smug and smart getting the torque wrench out to do the head bolts check beforehand!

As above it will likely be fine but if you have any problems we can fab a replacement up on my mill.

Re the 16A circuit, it will run on a 13A circuit but will likely trip a B-curve MCB so you'll want a C-curve in there.

Did you get the Dakota after all?

The ones I've pulled apart this cap just retains the oil

I went to a machine few weeks back previous guy said motor bearings had failed, this machine was making no air and I was scared to go in and switch it off.

Took the barrel off to this

Hard to say, they always fill them up with oil after the event.

remove Allen key bolts one at a time fit big washer and spring washer re-fit bolts and don't over tighten

@skotl thanks, would be good to see the old gal (lathe) in action. I went for an ABAC in the end; the Wolf looks a great machine but the ABAC I went for better suits my future needs.

It's only atmospheric pressure in the sump, I might have a plate from a pump in the workshop.
