Decent face mask for cutting and grinding?

Looking for a face mask to use when I use my big Evolution chop saw.
Not sure what happened today but I put a piece of 40mm x 40mm angle in it to cut, I'm sure I tightened the vice but it must of slipped and next min the whole saw blade twisted took a chunk out of the saw base and bent the piece of angle!
I got a bruised thumb and shook me up!

So looking for some sort of face guard so I dont end up with a piece of angle embedded in it..

Would prefer local so screw fix or toolstation or would my welders helmer be adequate?

it all happened in a split second...I normally but angle in /\ like this but it was just a quick cut so put it in like _lm not sure if it went under the fence and was not held properly?

I've aways been a bit wary of the evolution chop saw, it's really powerful and you can feel the kick when you pull the trigger scares the hell out of me and metal blades cutting steel does not seem right!

That's your problem I think, the blade will have caught the top edge and twisted the whole bit of angle in the vice. Once it twisted, it's no longer tight. It can happen in bandsaws too.

I would always cut angle like this : /\ unless mitreing, in which case you make sure it's well and truly tight, and go gently on the cut! Bigger thicker angles are less prone to this.

Are you after a face visor, then? The Honeywell bionic shields are nice and comfortable.

I got one of those last week from Zoro but I think Screwfix sell them too, it seems quite nice for £25-30.

It's fairly light weight so not sure how well it'll take a wack from a piece of angle iron...

I always(?) try to use a spare lump of something, that is wider than the angle, so that one side of the angle iron is at least trapped securely between the vise jaws over a good contact area.

I use a full face shield with built in ear defenders! I have for the last 25 years tinnitus in both ears Protect your ears as well as your eyes!!
