Defender heated rear screen fault

Is there a repair for a 2003 Defender heated rear screen, only the bottom 1/3 has worked for the last dozen years.

Do any of the paints work? or just bite the bullet and buy a ne rear screen?

The front one is great, the rear is letting the side down, was -4 trip to work this morning and still -1.

I've never tried but friends have and all ended up getting a replacement screen in the end.

I wouldn't know as I can't see out the back with the Range Rover seats in the back so it's pointless.

you used to be able to buy a repair paint for rear screens might have been holts
it is just a paint that conducts electric

The paints will only work if the element wires are proud of the glass surface. If the same as the front the wires are embedded between the layers .
-4 , did you have to put a vest on under your t-shirt .

I've used the paints with actual metallic silver in them, the one I used was from Electrolube I think. They're ok (but expensive) if you only have one or two broken segments and can find the break. But if 2/3rds have gone you'd be constantly playing whack-a-mole.

Is that pic of your daily commute? Looks a bit hairy...

Rear screen is an old fashioned one with tracks on the glass.

You will be suggesting I wear something under my kilt in the winter next!

If I was using some of that paint stuff, I would try and embed a fine copper wire or two in the paint.

Id then go over it with epoxy after to be sure it never came off.

thats only for wimps

you need to clean off on each side to get a good connection with the new paint over or it dosnt work thats why alot of people fail with paint on heated windscreens

but yes it can be done and does work

It's a landrover. He will have to drill out the screws. Find oversized screws to match the, now, oversized holes. Find that the holding strip no longer works with the oversized holes. Drill new holes. Need to replace the sealing strip and now it's full of random holes. Find that the loom plug brakes when he undoes it. Try to butcher a new plug onto the old loom. Find something else then doesn't work. Discover a load more corrosion.

Etc.

I can just about remember when cars didn't come with them as standard, and there was a colour section in the middle of the Haynes manual explaining how to fit one of those...

I had a funny plastic thing that stuck to the rear screen to make a double layer, sort of double glazing idea. Must be about 1967, it was crap, but that was all that was available.

I'm a Northumbrian (A Scotsman with the generosity squeezed out) and I'd pay that rather than faff about all weekend and still have a broken heating element!

Last time I checked I am sure they were £250 plus the seal, can get one for £100 delivered with the seal, so just ordered it.

I used a conductive paint from RS in the 80's, this may be the modern version
