Denbigh Pillar drill

Apologies if this should be in a different section but I've just stumbled upon this little gem and I'm hoping someone may have a little more information on it.

Not the best pics, it was pitch dark inside that shed!

Long story short, I've just been helping a pal collect a (woodworking) lathe and the chap getting rid of the lathe had this sat in the same shed.

He said I can have it for £75 as long as I take two huge vices away at the same time (he's clearing out the place after the owner had to go into care - dementia) oh, and not just stick it on the bay of evil.

I just think it's a lovely thing and would really like to restore it and have it in the workshop.

Anyway, I've been on lathes.co.uk and couldn't see one the same, does anyone out there know any more about it?

Go get the thing before someone else does. We had its big brother in the boatyard where i worked in Old Leigh in 82, I think it was built before WW1, You will never wear it out.

Old drill worth saving ?

This is near me and the guy wants £30 looks to be pretty old but not to far gone to save. It has the pulley on top of the spindle but no motor shouldnt be an issue. Ive never heard of a J.Edwards pillar drill but its a cool looking thing shame to see it wieghed in Press behind isnt for sale :-(

I've got one very similar, possibly a bit later than this one. It's pigging heavy for a start, morse 1 taper, pretty solid thing, mines got some play in the spindle bearings. Worth the money with 2 vices thrown in.

jump on it ,,, its worth that just to look at it ,,, and with two vises , its for free.

Stick a 3 phase motor and vfd on it. If not, fit an NVR switch that you can easily reach.

Well, it's here! I am now the latest custodian of this:

It works and once it's had a bally good clean will be getting mounted on one of my workbenches.

I'd still like to know what model it is though as I can't find anything on it to tell me.

Now, it's funny you should mention that! I could find only one set of pictures on t'interweb that looked remotely like mine and (vintage machinery, New Zealand iirc) and it claimed exactly that. However, if you look at the drawing on lathes.co.uk, the structure is quite different.

Nope, look closer at the structure.

Yeah, I know. I've dropped an email to Tony Griffiths, hopefully he'll be able to help. I'm pretty sure he'll have more info that isn't freely available on his website.
