Denford triac pc milling machine prices

Hi guys.

Looking for some help and advice plz

I have been tasked with the job of selling a ex school denford triac pc cnc milling machine.

It's a single phase machine.

It's comes on the proper denford very heavy table with the big bulky legs and padded adjustable feet.

Also in the bundle is four milling chucks and one drill chuck.

It has its big black boxed control box and I have the original software cd and denford manuals

So what's it worth ????

Not withstanding that it's sold and presumably the winning bidder had a dose of buyer's remorse and/or discovered he couldn't be bothered collecting, a few hundred quid isn't unreasonable provided it all works; the ebay ad is a bit rubbish though, people will be more likely to bid if the accessories are listed and photographed. Given the size of it basic dimensions and an approximate weight would be good too. Ideally you'd plug it in to a PC and run a simple programme, video it on your phone and stick it on yourdailytubemotion and add a link to the ebay listing.

Only I was not looking for an explanation as to why the ebay add was rubbish.

The seller made a mistake. Hence the auction was ended early.

This has nothing to do with what it is worth.

It still needs to be sold but at what price

I've done what anyone else would do, looked at available data on Triac sales; on the empirical data that the one advertised at £500 hasn't sold but your failed sale ended at £100 the sweet spot lies between the two, exactly where depends on how good the advert is, what way the wind is blowing, how many eggs the buyer had for breakfast that morning and the price of fish at Billingsgate.

They sometimes go for crazy money, or at least to me it is crazy. Don't see any on eBay recently when searching for previous sales, only your one. The £500 one mentioned above I suspect is the guy from RoutOutCNC who advertises that he retrofits them to Mach3 for £500.

Most people that buy them will be converting them to either Mach3 or LinuxCNC so obviously they have an additional expense on top of the original purchase price of the machine although that can often be offset by selling the old components.

Probably best to look on mycncuk.com for ones that are for sale or have been for sale, even a general google search for Denford Triac for Sale should bring up a load of hits.

As with everything else though it just depends on who is looking for one at the time and there is really no such thing as what it is worth, just what someone is willing to pay

after posting this on here, I came across Mycncuk.

there were three of these for sale, all from the same guy named tommy,
they were being offered at prices from £3,000 to £2,400

none have been re advertised, and some have sold next to the add,

the adds are only a few weeks old so I guess thats a good ball park to what there selling for

a few hundred pounds mentioned above was quite frankly a joke if you as me

You also have to consider whether they had toolchangers or not, ones with will obviously be more value.

after posting this on here, I came across Mycncuk.

there were three of these for sale, all from the same guy named tommy,
they were being offered at prices from £3,000 to £2,400

none have been re advertised, and some have sold next to the add,

the adds are only a few weeks old so I guess thats a good ball park to what there selling for

a few hundred pounds mentioned above was quite frankly a joke if you as me

any thing is worth as much as some ones willing to pay for it the problem with this item yes they are an expesinve item when new and for a company that needs it would prob quite happly pay £3000 as they can recoupe the cost but the hard job is finding the person that wants to buy it(there are only a few in the whole country) and most of the people that are looking for one have pick of a bunch of units and knowing they are a hard sell and hard to move can barter as they know that they are in a good position

Just a point mind.
I was shocked to read that the base model of these sold at the time for 18 grand going up to 22 odd grand

They were that sort of money because schools at the time were getting money thrown at them to modernise and they all thought that if the bought CnC machines at would ticket that box.
The machines themselves really have no practical application to a business as they are just toys, sorry meant "training equipment".

The only people that can get anything out of them are serious hobbiests and they can go and buy a turnkey Syil or something similar for not much more money (than you are thinking of asking) that run modern hardware and software.

The Denfords are built well don't get me wrong. But too many people have pulled them out of schools for next to nothing and suddenly think they are worth thousands because they are clean CNC machines.

Only posts I see from Tommy are dragging up old for sale threads looking to buy a drive card that is way out of production. The £2.5k machines are usually PC/ATC models or have modern control conversions like Mach 3. I'd put yours at about a grand, but you never know there might be some mug willing to pay the £2.4k you're asking.

I would also say £1000 is what to expect, well I would say between £500 and £1000 but all depends on who wants one at the time you are selling. I have seen clapped out ones going crazy, upwards of 2K and I have seen nice ones going for £200 or so.
Personally I think £2-300 is what I would pay for one if I was needing one but I don't so......

I think you will find the software is for education use only and comes with a security dongle. So far as I am aware, Denford (and Boxford) have a policy of not allowing that software to be resold.

I have a couple of CNC milling machines myself (ex school) and they typically sell for circa £500 to people who convert them the Mach 3. A running Mach 3 would be worth over £1000 (for a small, enclosed one like mine). I am selling the Denford

Sure. Getting hold of the software is easy. Don't get caught if it has an "education only" key though.

Well its now been sold At £1,300

so I guess that could be seen as whats its worth????

We had advertised it at £1,400 and got quite a bit of interest, this guy was the first to show up, the price was only lowered by £100 as we could not put our hands on the Denford security codes
