So I've been searching which gun to buy, and the one titled seems a good bet. I will be doing mainly panels and small areas such as arches.

Should I go for a more expensive Devilbiss gun? I saw the GTI, but apparently it requires a lot from the compressor and would fill my garage with over-spray without correct ventilation?

I want a good finish and would pay more than the above if required.

I've sprayed before, but the gun was cheap and the finish reflected that and probably my lesser knowledge at the time.

Welcome to the forum Neil. I, by no means, mean this in a demeaning way but its not necessarily the gun that makes the difference, its the set up and the experience. A good sprayer could get a good finish with a cheap gun, and a novice could make a total mess with an expensive one. This being said, its not a bad policy to get the best you can afford but learn from this forum by asking specific questions before you try to reinvent any wheels.

I've got a couple of Sealey gravity guns, old style and compliant and a friend has cheap guns from hugspaint on ebay. A friend of his brought his Devilbiss 610 when he was painting some Land Rover bits and couldn't tell the difference between them for use or results. I use a £10 .8 touch up gun for small areas and it gives good results and doesn't waste paint.

I bought a devilbiss sri pro and have found it superb, low air useage and not massive amount of overspray.

I completely agree with what you're saying in the above, I have used a sealy gun before and it came out well.

The issue I had previously was applying the clear coat, as my setup was crap. As I didn't really understand the correct setup and also I think I had mixed it too thick.

I have seen the sri pro, but it is a jump up in the price range, so from the above am unsure if its worth it.

I meant, in response to the above, would I need an extractor with the GTI? As I have read that it produces quite a lot of overspray.

For people like myself who do not have extractor facilities it could fill up the area quite quickly with overspray.

If you leave the garage door open, you will be ok, if not you will need extraction.

Ok great, that's what I have done previously with my old HVLP gun, but read that the better quality guns can produce quite a lot more spray.

I'm still a bit stuck if i'm honest with what gun to choose, what would you guys recommend as I'm only going to be doing panels and small areas?

So I assume the GTI would be overkill? and the SRI more suitable?

Is the SLG much worse considering it is considerably cheaper?

I found the sri pro very good but I went for the 1.2 set up, it will spray high build primer, base coat and clear to a very good standard, picked it up brand new off eBay for £130 so was a bargain. If only doing small areas and single panels would be ideal. I painted my mk1 mini with it and never had any problems. If I could find another at same price but 1.0 set up would get another.

Me personally if your shooting pearls and metallics in small areas get an sri pro and a cheep ebay job for primer and clear.....

I have both and only use the good guns for colour....
I use a twenty quid hvlp for primer and clear....

That makes sense, I remember when spraying previously the primer and clear were a nightmare to clear out and really gunked up my gun in the end.
