Picked up a large pillar drill for the bench and was drilling some steel plate without any form work holding and the steel shot up the drill bit just as it broke through and now the run out gone from couple thousand to all over the place removed the quill as I'll call it and tried to straighten it on me logun lathe got it to within 2 thou but every time I use it the run out seems to get worse tryed heat over straightening treated it to a new keyless chuck and mt2 taper but the runout greeps back in anyone got any ideas .I would like to keep it as before my stupid mistake it was really good

Have you got a press? A pair of v blocks and a press or even just two blocks and the shaft would work. I am not near the workshop (Euston station actually) or I could take some pics for you to follow OR you can look on YouTube for "straightening a shaft" for some ideas. Much better looking at a video as to trying to understand my explanation.
I've set it up in my lathe using dial indicator back and forth both ends until it runs true by using some bar stock on the tool post can get runout down to a thousand but every time I reinstall it into my pillar drill the run out seems to reappear after I drill the first hole it like the steel used for the quill reverts back to being bent ,when I got it it was 1-2 thou run-out and was acceptable until I drilled that fateful hole and some 10 mm plate shot up the drill doing 3-400 rpm the problem is I've straightened it but it keeps coming back replaced all the bearings with new better ones checked everything else out new chuck but as soon as I drill that first hole the run out creeps back in
