Diesel/petrol conversion of 3 phase package?

Hi all

Lost my previous laborious post on several options.

Looking to engine power a 3 phase package compressor for media blasting (in residential area, neighbours 100m away.)

Why? to get volume of air as quitely as possible. Old 3 phase packages look cheap, I have the possibilty of a Compair 6000 at twice scrap value. The enclosure is big enough to take a refurbished 1.6L petrol I already have.

Another alternative available cheap, is a kubota diesel (small) for which I would need to find a screw or vane compressor.

Road compressors I think are going to be to noisey and are wrecked or pricey.

Any thoughts on the sweet spot regarding compressor output to noise to required engine size to cost. I think I can remodel for under £1k to buy for immediate use would propably be £2k but it just depends what comes available. What to go after and what to leave alone ?

Hmm, even the screw compressors still make a fair racket. Partial saving grace is being in an acoustic enclosure, but still not quiet in my opinion.

what size jet are u going to use on your pot fitting an engine to a screw compressor ect uses a governor on the engine when no air being used the engine is on tickoverr when in use it runs at nearly full revs . theres more noise from the blast jet than the pump when in use

buy a road compressor, or for your application a road compressor with low hours thats been batterd about a bit. council contractor ones are optimal

the monkeys tend to smash the body of them up so they look knackerd but they never actualy do any work so most of the compressors have low hours and mecanicaly in good condition. add a few more silencers to it you'll be well n te way to a quiet unit.

as allready said tho the balst jet is louder so i never botherd with mine

Probable nozzel size 5 to 7 mm depending on what comes up.

Re nozzel noise, measured my noisey mini mains compressor, 100db close by, 80db outside garage at 5M and 60 db at 15M. (Scale A)

Table of construction equipment rates shotblasting at 85 to 96 db. at 15M so that is a significant noise level at that distance. Propose to use an enclosure so 100mm + of foam is possible behind rubber lining.

So the "Silent" operation used to describe package compressors is lies ?

a 6mm jet will take about 80 to 90cfm to keep pressure at 90 psi. i use a 90 with a screw pump with 3 cylinder perkins engine

2 grand would get you a tidy fast tow compressor

have a look at your local auction houses.

i payed £1350 for a 130 CFM ingersol rand (1994)

then bought another 130 cfm ingersol rand for £500 at local auction (1997) and only 700 hours shown ( i'd belive that as well from condition of mecanicals inside ) but the top lid was smashed off and very bent origanly it was just going to be an engine donour but to good for that once sorted now it's been converted to be a static compressor.

for what i do i like the deutz engines there is no water to leack or freeze air- oil cooled they can be a bit heaver on the juice than watercooled units tho so if running it a lot may be worth thinking about

I am concluding that the Kubota is too small, a 500cc twin, won't give me the volume of air to be effective.

So back to checking auctions for towable.

have a look when u are buying one to see how many hours it has run on the clock bancrupt sales are the best not from hire firms getting shot of em with high hours use
