Diesel.tank repair?

Got this diesel tank, it has had diesel in it. It has a crack on the filler neck. No decoded if to use the attached or get a new o e yet but either way I need to weld it up. It's stainless and will Tig it.
Would to flush out with soapy water do it for the I side and a wire brush around the weld area ?

It is for the cheapo Chinese diesel heater I have for the boat so it will need a proper deck filling point needed

so reason I havnt decided if to keep it or a better neck to connect pipe to. Maybe just cut off the threads on the next now and co. Ext pipe to that

I'd wash it out with hot soapy water and rinse it a few times and then weld it up. I'd get a new filler neck and weld a plate to the tank and then weld the neck to that.

clean thoroughly, cut that out and clean the joint area properly...it wont end well if there is any residue in the crack

and yes it can still go pop.... make sure it is clean and fill it with water to close to full and purge with argon internally

Thanks guys. but as it is of just now this boat has just gone from bad to worse and i have time for boats. Just cracked the power lift on the tilt mechanism casting and its grand to replace. unless i can braze it up.

Id prime that with hot soapy water and let it stand, the oil residue will migrate to the high point. Empty, then Re flush. I purge with argo to when welding.

Buy a filler neck on a plate (or make one).

Cut out the bad & weld in the new on nice clean edges.

Looks to me like the neck has been badly brazed to the tank, tank and neck look ok. If this is the case clean it up and go again.
