differences between rutile and rutile-cellulosic rods

Hi to all.
Fast question as per title:
what are the main differences between rutile and rutile-cellulosic rods?

I tried both (on flat). But I am too beginner in welding to notice
any difference in their behaviour.

What I'm missing?

The Rutile Cellulose should have a more fiery arc which yields more spatter but will penetrate better. Sometimes these differences are a bit blurred due to the opinions of the manufacturers.

Rutile celulose are better on dirty or painted or galv thick sections as they burn with a bit more zip

As above, but rutile cellulosics also have a faster freeze characteristic making them more suitable for vertical work and in particular, vertical down. So if you look at what the major makers offer as 6013s, there are usually at least four, a couple of rutiles and a couple of rutile cellulosics, one of which will be an out and out positional rod and which may not be particularly easy to use. I don't think there are rutiles recommended for vertical down. If you are not particularly interested in vertical down welding, and it has drawbacks, just find a rutile or rutile cellulosic which you get on with and stick to it. 6013s are all supposed to be all-positional but it's a broad specification.

Of course, if all of your welding has been on the flat and you can do it pretty well with your favourite rod, then you have to do something vertical and find it awkward, you might look at the rod and the maker's claims and ask whether welding off the flat is one of it's strengths.

Then as TechnicAl says, there's the question of what constitutes a rutile or rutile cellulosic and the makers have some leeway in putting out their descriptions.
