just couldnt get a good run this morning so have stopped for a cuppa and some advice
im running a 2.5mm rod at 60ish amps as they seem to run lovely set like this (bead looks good and easy to control, slag falls off at the end) and trying to weld what i would call a lap joint. strength is not an issue but i welded a tab on for the earth clamp and that doesnt want to budge when i tried to straighten it up a bit with a hammer so im happy its going to be strong enough, plus all the weight is going to be below the weld and not acting on it at all anyway
i have cut the top off a propane bottle, and then cut the stand ring off the bottom of another, i have then placed the bottom of the bottle with no stand in the top of the other one and wish to weld it up so i can have a burner section on top and a wood store on the bottom.
i have tacked it up ok, its got 8 tacks on equally spaced and they all have good fusion, no problems with that at all... it has good fit up all around too. when i started welding it up i found the bottom lip was just melting away as soon as i got about an inch into the weld, so i tried focussing the arc on the top piece but the same thing is happening.
i am welding in the horizontal position as its the easiest position to get everything lined up.
would i be better off trying to position it so its flat (rod coming in from the top) rather than horizontal?
