digger boom with a small crack half way up the boom from the cab what rods should I use? [5 tonne amman ]

Low Hydrogen would be my suggestion.

Some booms are high strength steel. I should try asking the manufacturer for the grade of steel.
Isnt it very unusual for these things to crack? What have you been doing with it?

I've welded some cracks on the boom of a large'ish case backactor.
It was used to load quarry trucks and part of the work involved pushing blockstones sideways out of the way. This put torsional loads on the boom and it would crack where there were internal gussets.
Used lo-hy's to stick it back together.

We used low hydrogen on a boom repair a couple of years back.
Be sure to grind the sucker out first.

Just a thought!
Depending on situation etc may need to be done by coded welder to keep the insurance company etc happy.

there insurance wont cover it,if there using the boom to push things sideways,not built for sideways work,only pull to cab work.

I'm pretty sure they don't insure the mobile plant.

I welded a Ford front end loader arm when i was 19 with 7018AC because the guy had an old AC welder. Saw it a few weeks ago and it still looked perfect. I don't think i would have changed a thing today and that was 35 years ago when i welded it. I am 55 now, well in a few weeks...Bob
