Can the digital spray gun regulator below be converted to work reliably on a compressor instead of on the gun ?

I would say no, as there would be a pressure drop through your air line to gun and they are supposed to let you know or regulate the pressure at the gun itself. I have one similar to that one and its a pain as it only stays on for a few seconds and then goes off to save the battery, they are no more than a ball valve which you open or close to regulate the air flow you need.
