Oh, I can't claim any originality of the idea, just slightly different from the ones I saw, in that I have 16mm front axles and I thought it would be better to have the skinny 14mm all-thread under tension and protected, instead of being exposed to tyre iron abuse, as others were. The others I saw were made for Gold Wing and similar wheels, which have 19mm axles, so the thread is much meatier and can be ground smooth for the top 6" or so, for the tyre iron to bear on and whiz around.
In the background you can see another piece of 16mm all-thread for the rear wheel, similar principle.
First tyre changed with it today - it made it a five minute job and no backache or wrestling with levers on the floor. Only stupid thing was the new lever I had should have been more closely looked at by the numpty doing the job, as it left a nice gouge mark on the rim. It'll buff out.
