Display decal

I'm currently building a water pump to display with my stationary engines, progress so far

I want to put some decals on the water tank so found the company logo

But if I enlarge it to the size I want (8" x 2") it pixelates

I've tried to smooth it out in Paint shop pro but it just darkens a pixel at a time so leaves the sawtooth efect

Any suggestions on how to get round this please.

Titch is well known (and respected) in the tractor & engine world, I did check his website.

He's not expensive, from what I understand.

It's worth speaking to him directly. He has a lot more than listed.

Do you know the rough age of the pump?

On the page that shows that logo, http://www.historywebsite.co.uk/Museum/Engineering/Evans/evans01.htm, it is from a 1953 catalogue. If the pump is a lot older than that, an earlier version of the logo might be more appropriate.

Something free like "Inkscape" will scan a bitmap and then convert it to a vector drawing. You can then smooth out any imperfections from the scan and, in theory, scale it to whatever size you want. But it takes a bit of learning and if @Kayos or @Fraserb can do it easily it's probably the best solution.

I haven't done it yet but I will be using ON1 Resize

Ive used it to create huge canvases from old phone camera pics, and also the other way, to manage a 10gb panorama made from about 50 shots

@Pilgrim22 nice job, there are a couple of weird glitches on the s at the end of evans, is that letter spacing?

strange the original designer made the lion part of the ribbon straight, it feels wrong to me

Mind you I have never been accused of being stylish so it is probably a design thing

Yes i saw the 'S' and fixed it after i'd posted the image. I agree also on the ribbon. see what @Robotstar5 thinks i can change anything quite easily.

No idea of the age, I believe it's called a boiler feed pump.

I did think of just the Lion logo to match the pump casting

But I think a longer decal will look better on the water tank so decided on the "Joseph Evans" I do have an advert to print and display with the pump.

Usually the printers can use the vector file. The main difference between a vector file and an image is the vector file is a mathematical representation of the image so it can be scaled infinitely without 'pixelation'. I will send the file tomorrow in vector format but also in large format jpeg. If you want anything tweaking just let me know.
