Disposing of LiFePo4 batteries

This isn't something I've had to do yet, but I happen to have one that the equipment it's part of has died, and I really can't be bothered extracting the battery, repackaging it and adding a standalone BMS to, especially since you can get an equivalent new battery for under £200.

So does anyone know if the local council tip will take them, as I want it away from cluttering up the workshop?

Edinburgh and West Lothian you have to take them to the Recycling Centre where there are boxes for batteries, including Lithium Ion types.
West Lothian you need to book first to take anything to the Recycling Centres.
I think you have to have photographic proof of identity and residence in East Lothian now to use their Recycling Centres.

My local electrical supplier (a CEF-type place) takes all types of batteries in for recycling...

My dustbin collection take bags of bags of batteries and electrical goods if you leave them by the bin when you put it out.

They should take it but best phone them first.

Fully discharge, so the energy content is low, making it relatively safe, in a shopping bag and put it into a normal street bin.
They contain miniscule quantities of lithium or anythjng else worth recycling and the more hazadous content is the solvent electrolyte, as its flammable.

Note that household bins will be collected using a compactor lorry, a bad idea for a charged battery. However street bins, are usually collected by a council tipper van with much less chance of being crushed/peiced before it gets to the tip.

Checked the council website, and as I drive a van, the only requirements are that I have to pre-book and take ID, however they don't mention if they specifically take big Lithium batteries..

However, in a moment of curiosity, I've discovered that I could get a BMS with LCD display option for £50...
Now what could I build a new enclosure out off...
