Dividing head parts missing...Make some ?

Recently i have found need for a diving head an di have one, although it has parts missing. I believe its a Universal diving head. I have been looking to try to ID what type it is so i can replace the parts.

I THINK, it needs a worm crank with a head. and parts to connect it ot he gearing. I have all gears that are with the lathe. I found the gears fit the divider.

Also a chuck or plate for the output end.

Its the parts to fit a dividing head that i cant work out. I may well be wrong but still need help please if anyone can help out.
I would find more use for it aswell on the mill. Thats the easy bit though to sort.

One mo ill go get pics as that will help. Ill add them asap.

I think you will find details of the original version (which used Myford change wheels) in Mason's 'Using the small lathe' book. They may also be in Sparey's book 'The amateur's lathe'. Yours is an adaptation of that design to use whatever size change wheels you have.

They were never designed to be used with a worm.

Measure the thread on the spindle and we can tell you what backplate/chuck would fit.

Well its 12TPI and measures 28.70mm or 1.130" so i guess 1/18" but from what i looked at if Whitworth then its 7TPI. so UNF is out aswell. So yep need help there aswell now.

Myford spindle nose is 1 1/8" -12 tpi Whitworth form (as you say, it is a special, not BSF or BSW).

Is the plain register behind the thread the same 1 1/8" diameter?

The dummy spindle nose in the lathe cabinet below the right hand stack of change gears looks very similar to that on the DH.

What is the lathe? Do you know the spec. of the change wheels? Measure the OD of one with an even number of teeth and write down the measurement and tooth count.

This what I have after a good clean up of threads. And sie by better caliper. So could be 11/8 ".
The dummy spindle is same spec as the DH. That has a MT though like the other finer thread spindle. .

Oh yes its this lathe

First for me and brand new ( to me :) ) WW2 ships Lathe.

I am so over the moon with this even more now :D:D:D As usual Fizzy put a link up on here from an Ebayer as a BIN. I actually didnt want a lathe for a while yet and have no funds but when i seen this i got it within 10 mins of seeing it and smiling at SWMBO . And at £380 ding dong i say...

This what I have after a good clean up of threads

Your photo shows 1.250" for the register and 1.126" for the threads. That matches the Myford dimensions (see post number 10, courtesy of slim_boy_fat here: https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/n-ireland-myford-ml7.100369/).

You have drawn it as left hand thread.

The gear is 16DP.

Edit:

May I make the observation that you were told twice in the original thread what the dividing head was, the likely spindle thread and how it works. Perhaps it would be good to review the thread yourself and refresh your menory.

All sorted just looked back and googled more to find the book i need. The book book by H Sparey "The Amateur's Lathe". sound s a good book for lots of stuff.

You have to bear in mind that Sparey wrote that book in about 1947 so it helps if you use 'I say' and 'crikey' a lot, what-ho?
