DIY Welding cooler. Mk3.

Made a couple of these this year. And they are as we know not difficult as the majority of the work is buying, plumbing and fitting with a little wiring.
I'm all out of projects at the mo so I've decided to build another but this time I'm going to make everything from scratch (apart from the pump I'll buy that.) it's an in my own time thing so it will be updated as and when. But the tank, heat exchange, frame etc will all be fabricated. I'll be making a start and follow through with pics etc for those that find interest.

Well I have already started with a few bits
Tank is in progress and so is the home made heat exchange.

DIY heat exchange. I'm gonna make two of these and bolt fans directly to them as chillers.

This is where we are at. No further progress till middle of next week.
The aim is light and compact.
It will be available for sale when finished but pls no pms on it untill it's done. As I'm not rushing it or working to deadlines.

This is very interesting as I've just got my hands on two brand new water cooled TIG torches.
Any ideas as to how much you'd be after once you've finished it?

Not yet tom as it's early stages and I've got the pump to buy yet which is the costly part.

I believe gaz1 has a Procon pump and motor...

Any idea as to requirements needed? I'd be happy to help out even just to see what it looks like at the end of it

Roughly 2 l/min and 5 bar.

I recall CK saying minimum. 1 l/min.
Max temp in 50 degrees C.

On a 20 torch you need approx 5 bar to drive 2 l/min through.

What have you got Tom? It must be 240v and the ideal would be to produce 40-60 psi of pressure. Above that is not an issue as I can always T off a line with a valve back to the tank like I've done in the past. The procon pumps are simply perfect for these but you need decent space and they don't do well when boxed up compact as the motor gets very warm and heats up everything inside. They are great if your keeping it open. Plus it's too heavy this time. I'm building it compact and light. So a tiny pulse pump is what I'm looking at ATM but still deciding.

Nice idea mate and I've seen them with interest but I'm going much smaller.

Ill have a look in the shed & see what I can muster up The pumps I've got are used for pumping water out of a massive tank up an extendable pole to clean windows with.

Richard could you not use a EFI fuel pump feeding from a small 240V/12VDC transformer...cheap as chips

ahh gotcha mate,compact and stand alone. Pretty much what you said in earlier posts really

That's it but they also come with there own disadvantages.
1) they work by pulsing the water very quickly so you do get vibration noise.
2) they are pretty pricey. I've seen a uk seller on the bay sell them for over £100 but I suppose that's less than a new procon set up with motor.
But they can be well boxed up and they don't give off heat inside.
They weigh no more than half a kilo and not much bigger than a car inline fuel filter. So good and not so good in different ways.
