Don't cut corners

Just a reminder not to cut corners.
Earlier this week I was cutting a 8mm slither of 4mm angle as a filler on a band saw. I would usually push this towards the blade with a good long push stick / off cut whatever. It was out of reach so grabbed a short off cut and slipped. Even after saying to myself this is dodgy.

Lucky escape. Your own self control is the best health and safety device. Mine failed. Don't be a dick like me.

Smarts bit doesn't it. But a luckily minor reminder (keep it dressed and clean so it stays a minor reminder).

Happens to the best of us, I did a similar stupid mistake. I just needed one quick blast on the finger sander but didn't have my safety glasses within reach (normally I am very good at always using them after having my eyeball shaved as a stupid teen). Que the safety squint, naturally a 2 second blast landed a ton of carp directly in my eye.

Still hopefully it will be a while before we do anything daft again.

Most common owee for me in the machine shop was when poking swarf down the bed of a capstan, and catching knuckles on a tool poking out the tool post. And deep cuts on the knuckle are the most painful, slowest healing wounds known to mankind.

This is not my injury, it's 'indoors from needle felting. Minor Injuries unit in Cinderford looked at it over two visits and decided it was outside their expertise and so...

"Needle is in my finger , quite a big piece of needle , waiting now to see whether they can get it out
They are having to speak to Orthopaedics at Glos Royal about it , they said they don't want to try to remove it in case they injure any nerves , so waiting now to see whats going to happen."

My Mrs got a big long sliver of Carbon Fibre lodged in her finger from a tent pole just like that a few years ago.

The Doctors kept insisting on sending her for X rays to see where it was, and then telling her there was nothing in there and she must be imagining it, when it didn't show up on the X Ray.

It took multiple visits to the doctors before someone with a bit of sense believed her that it was in there and that it wouldn't show up on the X Ray before they cut it open and fished it out.

I slipped and drilled through my thumb nail bed. Even 30+ years later nail still grows strange

I'd just like to clarify I am not claiming this is a serious injury but one of those "lucky" warning. A bit of a kiss, to make you feel stupid!

They had a "production line" going at my school in the 70's with 3 or 4 of the multi-needle tools, after each use they were dipped in something flammable and lit to sterilise ready for the next customer, I think they got going too fast as the lad in front of me fainted when they applied the still too hot tool to his arm
