I was faffing about grinding bits and bobs a few weeks back when interfering Mr Hitch popped up suggesting that I buy a belt linisher.
I did some research and figured it would be a good idea. I had a look on Fleabay and the net spotted a few and had them shot down in flames by forum members, many thanks for that, so often the fancy pants looking stuff turns out to be pants.
I then spotted a Draper one for a reasonable price, decent power motor at 1500w. it went on my future buys list, then some nice chappy bought a large sculpture I made two years back so i was in the market.
i bought it with the optional stand to save faffing about making one.
cost all up about £380.00
First thought was the stand is a bit wobbly, the pressed base has no stiffeners across it, easily fixed with a brace.
it seems to do the job, works very well on strip and bar, great for profiling the ends on strips or making a more accurate angle after shearing.
The motor seems up to the job, if you really lean on a large workpiece you can make it slow slightly but I was doing it on purpose.
There is the option of working on top of the belt or on the wheel both of which get used equally.
it is always a relief when you buy a new tool and it immediately becomes indispensible.
The next mod was a dust collector on each end, which collects almost of the filings. I might get round to making an attachment to my powered dust extractor to get all of the dust out of the way.
There are sparks but I am working on an idea for collector tin with a outlet hose and spark trap. One day when I am bored it might happen.
So overall pleased as pie with it and glad not to have bought the fancy pants versions for more money.
Cheers for the advice chaps.
