Anyone recommend either a good dremel or a good tungsten grinder as my current one has killed a dremel two knock offs and a Bosch professional rotary toolView attachment 472105 View attachment 472106
I’ve been using my bench grinder but without the drill I can get decent points but you always get warm fingers and with the sharpener they were always the exact same every timeAs a temp fix till you get sorted i used to get good results by putting the tungsten in a drill and coming in on the side of the bench grinding wheel, can achieve very accurate points to the tungsten tips with practice
It killed a proper dremel as well as a Bosch pro version and a couple knockoffs I think it’s the tungsten dust doing itI've got a Dremmel and a couple of Aldi and Lidl knock offs. I think the real Dremmel are much better and last longer. It's Amazon Black Friday soon and there's often Dremmel stuff on offer so might be worth hanging on.
There is an issue with the windings in some mains powered Dremels failing.
The internet shows how to fix them.
I have one Dremel set aside for tig grinding, another for general workshop dremeling and a battery knock off that is in my work tools kit. The latter is cheapo enough that if it fails I buy another
Wouldnt be difficult to fabricate a suitable motor housing/spindle and use a standard 550 or 775 motor.
You can also grind them well at a high rottion speed in a battry drill by angling the tungsten up the top 1/3 of the grinding wheel as it rotates towards you . Use the same wheel you'd sharpen lathe cutting tools with , not a real hard and coarse wheelAs a temp fix till you get sorted i used to get good results by putting the tungsten in a drill and coming in on the side of the bench grinding wheel, can achieve very accurate points to the tungsten tips with practice
