Chaps
Having lurked for a while and posted in the breathing mask thread I thought I should say hello properly. My name is Jim and as well as being an A&E Consultant, I am a caraholic.
I currently have two old BMW's - an E21 316 and an E24 635CSI - and my real car which is an Audi S4. The 635 needs a bit of bodywork tidying, but the 316 is basically fine. Thus I will shortly be getting another 316 which will be made into a track day car - cage, bucket seats etc, and have a new engine. Fortunately I have found an industrial unit to share, and there's lots of room for cars and tools. No pictures of my space as it always seems too gloomy to get a decent pic when I am there. I am pleased to say that the next 316 needs some welding!
I say my 316 is fine, that's because the mechanic guy at the unit welded a patch over a hole in my inner rear arch for me last week, and the car now has no holes. The same guy has been helping me to rebuild the partition around my workspace with his SIP topmig turbo 150. Just tacked for now (he IS running a business from the unit so doesn't have all day to weld for free), and we discussed strengthening it, which became a discussion of me doing it...
So I'd been PM'ing weldequip to discuss buying a MIG, but then my mechanic friend pointed out the 3 gas bottles next to my workspace and the 2 clarke MIG sets in his. So for the princely sum of £30 I have a working Clarke 130TE welder, which needs the top handle fixing, a spool of wire, and some gas. It has some spare shrouds/tips in a placcy bag inside, though I'll probably grab some new ones anyway. There's a place near the unit that will sell me a helmet/gloves, fill the cylinders for a tenner, and I am away. Apologies to weldequip!
Jim
