Dropping In

Thought I'd have a go at making a Parachute.
It's the second thing I've made and I know there's a a lot wrong, proportion the cutting of the strips for the chute (had to use a grinder and consequently I didn't get the edges very straight!). Found but welding of the strips to be difficult as they were only 1mm. When I got home I checked on the tutorials here and found out the correct method Had great "fun" welding the 1mm wire to the 1mm chute.
Anyway the positive thing is I've learn a lot from the exercise so all in all quite pleased.
Your comments would be greatly appreciated as I'm here to learn.

I would have been tempted to hang him on a wire so he can float about in the breeze nice work.

Does look rather good,and as strada says hung from some wire etc away from the building will give an added effect

Thanks guys. I'm away from tomorrow night for a week or so but when I get back I may hang him off a wire as you suggest.

Looks great, I could not see how you were going to make a parachute.
Perfick, definitely get him away from the wall.
Shroud lines etc all work really well.
You could be onto something.

How did you weld the mig wire onto the steel sheets? I've tried this numerous times and always just burnt out the wire.

Start the weld off on the sheet, get it to stabilise then lick the weld pool onto the wire.
A weird way to describe it but it works, takes longer than you think a kind of slow quick movement.
Frustrating at first and takes a bit of practice.

So, gun in one hand and a pre cut piece of wire in the other. Make a small pool and push the wire in ?

Almost, have the wire on the surface, start the pool and slip it onto the wire.
Curse vigorously as the end melts off the wire.

low enough to melt the sheet, not as low as you might think.

Yep would agree with that. Very frustrating and lots of cursing! Worth it though.
