Dryer question

Anybody recognise this ? Supposedly a 'dryer', i wanted to have a look inside to see what if anything it contained, and if it could be used. When i loosened the bolts round the top it became apparent that there is a spring pushing against it, so discretion being the better part of valour, i thought id do it back up and ask you knowledgeable people first.

Looks like a membrane dryer to me.

the ones I've seen had felt pads in em.....

There will be a spring between the diaphragm and the regulator knob, so I would expect the spring to push the top off when the top was unbolted.

as above with the spring you can screw the bottom off the seperator and it will have a felt type filter in it.make sure it hasnt disintegrated and its clean
