duty cycle

i have a kinda idea of what duty cycle is but not fully sure say an electroweld 250 air cooled has 10% @ max amp, so does that mean if im putting a rod down at max amps if i run the machine for 1 minute staight it needs the other 9 minutes for cooling. i was thought 100% was over a 10 minute period. if you exceed the duty cycle then does the thermal protection kick in on a air cooled? cause the air cooled i had use to always heat


on my oil cooled it says max duty cycle k.v.a. 5 what is that in percent?

just curious or am i way off the mark

duty cycle if 50% is 5 minutes run time out of ten minutes not sure about the oilcooled

yes you are right with the duty cycle (ambient temperature is also a factor and I don't know at what temperature the rating is based on)

The KVA 5 is the electrical rating and not a duty cycle figure. (KVA = Kilovolt x amps)

some miller and i think i heard lincoln welders are rated at 104F (49C) degrees
